The World Forgetting, by the World Forgot
I read in wonder of this line, in the headline.
Sounds like an oxymoron after reading it over for the 20th time.
“The world forgetting”, as in the people in the world are forgetting - something.
“By the world forgot”, as in these people have forgotten whatever that something is.
So, how can you forget something you have already forgotten?
Then I thought…
Maybe, it is speaking of a story - the story of “the world forgetting”, recounted by the world who has already forgotten. That means we are going through the story, understanding the story of how and why and what the world forgetting is.
Which leads me to the next line…
“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”
Oh gawd… save me… *crashes through the wall*
“Eternal sunshine”, I assume that the sun continues to burn, and that is a metaphorical sun. Likely to be something beautiful.
“Spotless Mind”, I think is a mind that does not have flaws or anything awful about it. So this mind, which is ‘clean’ and ‘beautiful’, is spotless.
My guess is, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” speaks of a mind bearing only beautiful memories, that live forever.
Put 2 and 2…
“The World Forgetting, by the World Forgot
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”
I finally arrive at… We are looking at the story or process of the World (of a person) forgetting, or being forgotten… so that the person can have beautiful memories that live forever.
No shit, I’ve finally decoded it! If you’re wondering by now, why in the world is this so important to be appearing here, well -
The 2 lines appear in a poem written by Alexander Pope, called “Eloisa to Abelard”. I think it is beautifully written, and makes a fantastic read. I’ll post the poem tomorrow.
It’s out! Freshly pressed - Eloisa to Abelard
